If you are considering a facelift I strongly encourage you to look at photographs of yourself when you were younger. As you age, you will likely observe a loss of fullness in your face, particularly in the cheeks and around the eyes. If you are over 40, you may also notice jowls forming due to a sagging jaw-line and/or a hanging neck. My goal is to achieve a natural result that leaves you looking refreshed and healthy without the tell tale signs of surgery.

During the consultation I will review your areas of concern and possibly make suggestions of other areas that should be addressed. Together we will develop a plan for your facial rejuvenation. We place great emphasis on reviewing exactly what can be expected from a particular procedure.

A facelift is a procedure that can be expected to smooth the contour of the jawline and tighten the neck. Unfortunately, even the most aggressive forms of this procedure are not particularly effective in reducing the smile lines, which should be addressed in other manners. A facelift does not pull the mouth tight or reduce the wrinkles around the lips.

During the procedure we suspend and tighten sagging muscle and fat pads to obtain a long lasting correction of the jawline and neck, while applying minimal pull on the skin to completely avoid the surgical look. Patients often incorrectly assume that a smaller procedure produces a more natural look. A natural appearance results from a well done appropriate procedure.  The goal of the procedure should be to make you look like you did 10-15 years ago.

If you decide to have a procedure with me, I like to have a second visit called a preop visit. At this time we will review what you can expect the day of surgery, what you should do to prepare for the surgery and what is necessary for the recovery process. We will also review the surgical plan and your expectations.

We have focused our efforts in making the procedure more comfortable and patient friendly. Rarely do patients complain of pain usually only reporting discomfort.  The precisely placed incisions are hidden and our no-skin-tension technique results in virtually invisible incisions. There is no loss of hair or change in the hairline. Patients who wear their hair short or pulled back should expect to be able to continue these styles after their procedure.

The procedure can be done with sedation as an outpatient under intravenous sedation.  You will be comfortable throughout the procedure and for all intents and purposes, you will be asleep.  Patients return to my office the next post-operative day and sutures are removed by the fourth or fifth post-operative day.  Patients can resume normal activity once the sutures are removed, including beginning to exercise.

Good candidates include physically healthy men and women who have realistic expectations and are experiencing a sagging jawline, hanging neck and/or jowls.

What to expect
On the day of the surgery, you will take a sedative to relax you and get you ready for the procedure.  Afterwards, you can go home without dressings or drains.  Patients do not typically report pain, just some mild discomfort.  You will come into the office the next day for a check-up and then again on the fourth or fifth day for suture removal.  Ice packs should be placed on the face, fifteen minutes on, fifteen minutes off to reduce swelling.  You will have my phone number available should any questions or concerns come up.
