Protruding ears is not an uncommon problem in our pediatric patients. Most of these patients are missing an extra fold in the ear to give it its characteristic shape. Otoplasty Surgery is meant to re-create the fold and set the ears back in a more natural position.

Timing of surgery usually corresponds to the time when your child would start the first grade, or around age 6. At this time, the child can participate in the post-operative care, while the cartilage is still flexible. Ear Pinning Surgery procedure can also be performed on adults with similar effective results.

An Otoplasty is done under general anesthesia for children and under twilight anesthesia for adults. Patient go home with a head dressing that is removed the next day in exchange for a lighter dressing for the next 3 days. Swelling can last for 1-2 weeks, but the results are apparent after the first day.
